Fridays, they are a-changin
Not so many years ago I used to go out every Friday. My friends and I would kick-off the weekend at a bar or a house party.
Once I started working and MT and I moved in together, Fridays became a bit more tame but we’d usually always go out for a drink or dinner.
Since I’ve started marathon training and especially as my long run distances increase my Fridays have become very quiet. They basically consist of carbs, lots of water and a movie. Since MT is training for a half (his first!) he usually keeps me company on Fridays.
That being said, I don’t want to totally ignore my friends/my social life. If people are making plans for a Friday I’ll go and have one glass of wine, followed by many glasses of water. I’m usually in home and in bed by midnight - this point is key as I get up at 6:30 a.m. on long run days.
How do you keep a social life while training for a race/staying active?

It’s hard! Just remember that what you’re doing is pretty amazing as it is. Most people wouldn’t be able to go out at all! Instead of setting the benchmark at “stay out until 2am” you need to feel proud for making it out at all.Change your mindset!

It’s really hard, all you can do is balance as well as you can and make your plans around your longs runs! No one can understand unless they’re a runner!
